PCIS Provides Clients with Another INSIGHTful Symposium

Insight 2005, PCIS’ annual client symposium, was recently held at The Lodges at Deer Valley. The symposium, which featured fall release information, training courses, and various forums, focused on the enhancements that have been made to PCIS state-of-the-art software, as well as the restructuring that has taken place within the division.

On Wednesday evening, PCIS clients and employees met and mingled at an informal reception. Since the symposium was held in Utah, most members of PCIS’ staff were able to attend the event and visit with clients in a casual, away-from-work setting.

“Besides the fact that our clients enjoy coming here, holding our symposium in Utah allows our clients and employees to rub shoulders with each other,” says Val Thurston, Director of Client Services. “It’s all part of developing the long-lasting relationships for which DHI has always been known.”

Thursday morning began bright and early as clients received first-hand training and information regarding the upcoming fall release. Clients then had the opportunity of participating in an exchange session to network with their peers and discuss how to maximize their software functionality. Since PCIS’ clients range from orthopedic groups to cardiovascular specialists, each clinic has customized their software applications to better meet the needs of their own physicians and patients. Sharing these ideas enables PCIS clients to more efficiently utilize the functionality of the PCIS GOLD® Practice Management Software.

Later that day, clients were given a sneak peak at PCIS’ new Hospital Rounds / Charge Capture software, which offers clinics a cost-effective means of completing rounds and electronically capturing hospital charges on a PDA device. Clients also viewed the division’s new Patient portal, a system that provides patients with the ability to easily access personal medical information, request appointments, and view lab results via the Internet.

After a busy day of meetings and training, clients enjoyed a relaxing evening at the annual banquet. Hosted at the Riverhorse restaurant on historic Main Street, the banquet provided clients with a great atmosphere and delicious food. The crisp mountain air and beautiful scenery offered a refreshing respite for many attendees, particularly those from busy cities.

Friday marked an address from Thurston in which he announced Dale Sandberg’s recent appointment as CEO of PCIS. Dale has worked for DHI for over 30 years, originally hired as a computer room operator and then programmer for the company’s first healthcare division. Since then, Dale has been an influential force behind the design and development of the PCIS GOLD ® Practice Management Software, as well as the electronic patient record (EPR) software, which is currently in development.

This year’s conference was a great success, with over 67 percent of PCIS’ clinics in attendance. Those who attended the event were pleased with the entire symposium, from the well-organized training sessions to the fun activities, which included riding the Snowbird tram, touring downtown Park City, shopping at the outlets stores, playing golf, and more.

“The feedback we received from this year’s conference reinforces our philosophy that client-group gatherings are integral to our success,” says Thurston. “These gatherings are a great way for us to strengthen our relationships with our clients.”
